If the room has table surfaces that are sufficiently large, the table lamp may be the best choice. Of course, the lamp should not block a view - so coffee tables are typically not the best surface choice. In areas where the horizontal surfaces are narrow such as a buffet table, then the smaller buffet table lamps are usually the best. A narrow and tall lamp such as a candlestick lamp, works well on a narrow surfaces.
Antique lamps include candle lamps, gas chandeliers, solar, astral, sconces, sinumbra oil lamps, kerosene lamps, piano lamps, banquet lamps and even electric lamps. These lamps also include the Victorian and American designed art-glass lamps and the various lighting devices. Antique lamps are bought for their designs and patterns. People collect antique lamps to enrich their collection. Some of these lamps are even sold to museums, depending on their historical value and exquisite periodic designs. They appeal to art collectors, either for their private collections or contribution to museums.
Another thing I love about lamps is the ambience they naturally produce with their soft, indirect light. I find it relaxing, especially in my study. I spend a far degree of my working life in my study which often includes early mornings and late nights. I find the ambient light of my stylish floor lamp much preferable to the bright ceiling light that seems to overpower me with its direct and piercing brightness.
Living room: This is the area that you and your guests will be spending most of your time. As rule of thumb, ensure that the lamps you install compliment the look of the room. There are many types of lamps that you can go with: floor, table, and accent lighting. You should use floor lamps as the main sources of ambient lighting and table lamps for filler light. If you have photos or art pieces that you would like to be seen at night you should use accent lighting.
