A lamp for the dining room can be from 20 to 36 inches in height. Choose a lamp that is just the right height so it would not shine straightly on the diner's eyes. Place a lamp with slim base in the dining room so it will take only less space and leave enough room for food platters, tableware stacks and other stuffs. To provide a romantic glow in the room, you can use a lamp with metallic gold or nickel interior and opaque shade. Bulbs to be used in dining rooms are below 60 Watts; bulbs with silver tips can effectively reduce glare.
Choosing a lamp for a bedroom involves picking one which may add beauty to the private room. The size of a bedside lamp usually depends on the height of your night table. Yet when your bed is tall, the lamp should not be over than 30 inches. When choosing a lamp for reading, the light should fall just right on the reading material. The base of the lamp must not be flimsy or bulky. There are other things which need to be placed on the table such as the alarm clock or glass of water so an adequate size of lamp base must be chosen. Bedroom lamps must be placed as close as possible to the wall to make room for other items.
Antique lamps include candle lamps, gas chandeliers, solar, astral, sconces, sinumbra oil lamps, kerosene lamps, piano lamps, banquet lamps and even electric lamps. These lamps also include the Victorian and American designed art-glass lamps and the various lighting devices. Antique lamps are bought for their designs and patterns. People collect antique lamps to enrich their collection. Some of these lamps are even sold to museums, depending on their historical value and exquisite periodic designs. They appeal to art collectors, either for their private collections or contribution to museums.
To avoid buyer's remorse you'll want to measure the square footage of the room before heading off to the store to make your purchase. You'll also want to consider where you'll be placing the lamp and the dimensions of any surfaces the lamp will be resting on.
